The azquad, a reclusive race by any standards, evolved in a trinary system on a planet constantly baked by the light of its three stars. They stand a little shorter than human height, with loose, flapped, saggy skin and great jowls. Their main flaw is their short, stubby limbs, which gives them a massive drawback in melee combat - and they have nothing that quite makes up for this. Their eyes in particular are noteworthy at least, being extremely advanced to the point that they can clearly make out details many dozens of kilometers away. Also of note are their tall, wide-backed heads, built to accommodate their large, inefficient brains. Their brain structure is significantly different from most creatures, being able to pick up on new details quickly, but they also lack a good deal of logical processing ability. Highly superstitious, with little ability to use computers, they have come to rely almost entirely on their fast reflexes behind the controls of a starship - especially as fighter pilots and scouts.

The azquads never quite found their place in the galaxy, largely because they didn't want a place. They are terribly afraid of new species, and only the plodii and the hiltorel have managed to win them over. They are also excellent friends with the fysar, who have been their allies for longer than they can remember. Humanity and the fysar don't particularly like each other, but they didn't receive the same treatment as the krolum and hiltorel. If anything, the signature azquad seclusion made them put up less of a fight to being put in reservations, and spared them much animosity.

Abilities

Azquadian characters have the following characteristics:

  • +1 agility
  • +1 robotics
  • +1 auxiliary
  • Far-seeing: Their powerful telescoping eyes permit them to see details of things that are miles away - just like they were standing directly next to them.
  • Fast learner: An azquad's unique brain design allows them to store things to memory almost as soon as they encounter them. They have advantage on general knowledge rolls.
  • Non-picky eater: Azquadas have an extremely powerful digestive system and are capable of eating almost anything organic - and many things that aren't organic.
  • -1 hacking
  • -1 computers
  • -1 exotics
  • Stubby limbs: Azquadas, when in melee, need to get extremely close to their enemy in order to attack due to their stubby arms. Due to this, they are incapable of dodging melee attacks that occur on the same layer as a melee attack, or the layer after. They can still melee, but it's far safer if they do so while their opponent is distracted.
  • Weak minded: An azquad's unique brain is also a disadvantage due to its easy manipulation. They have disadvantage against all PSI attacks that affect their mind.
  • Night blind: They cannot see in the dark, or even dim light: they may require use of a flashlight even in twlight and can't see at all in moonlight or dimmer lighting.
  • Needs warmth: While in particularly cold areas (near freezing or below) their body slows in order to conserve heat. This makes their actions take twice as long.
